This is an absinthe spoon with the alchemical symbol “resolve” carved through the void that the sugar and absinthe would pass through. In spiritual alchemy, the rituals conducted are symbolic and meant to reflect some form of transformative journey. I felt this symbol perfectly embodies the intentions of drinking absinthe.

This spoon is made out of sterling silver alloy that I measured and made using traditional scales. After making the alloy, I cast the mixture into a bar. I used my hammer to almost entirely shape this spoon. Very little filing was done. I wanted the highest point of the spoon to have a very geometric, obvious hammer-struck texture, and as the spoon came closer to the pouring section, I wanted it to become more refined, also emphasizing the transformative theory of drinking absinthe and alchemy.
