Purple Cup

For this cup I did a process called slip casting. I first used the pottery wheel to throw a cup to be my master. I then made a mold of it using plaster. Once the plaster had cured and the master cup was removed, I poured in a liquid clay called slip. The plaster absorbs the water in the slip, creating a solid outer layer, enabling you to then pour the liquid in the center out.

I made several of these cups to use as a personal dining set in my home and to match my bowls. This particular one shows three of my favorite glazes together. The purple glaze was of my own recipe, and I love how it breaks and pools.
