Neferata, Mortarch of Blood

This was a repaint. This model had chips everywhere on it — the purple skulls, the bones, the fabric, the chair, the green ghost, the red armor bits — almost every material, even the small pearls hanging from her dress, needed repairing and repainting. The original painter did a decent enough job staying inside the shapes and inside the lines, but I took the opportunity to completely repaint Neferata and her armor and increase some of the details in the mount.

Her armor is painted in the style called non-metallic metal, sometimes referred to as NMM. It is a layer painting process where you start with all of the armor being the darkest color. You then build up brighter layers where light would strike those parts of the armor to suggest the reflections in metal. It’s one of the most advanced techniques in miniature painting, but it looks fantastic when done.
