Splatter Skull

This painting/drawing originated from one of my earliest favorite lessons to teach where you make an abstract work of art, you evaluate its existing parts, and then transform the image to represent something realistic. This exercise started when I was young in a different application when we’d look at clouds and imagine them as sculptures in the sky.

For this piece, I began by blowing watercolors and then using ink to bring out the skull image. I finished up the piece with some charcoal shading and white ink to highlight.
